Ever since the arrival of the Stereo VCR on the scene, people have needed composite video/stereo audio cable sets to hook up their home a/v systems. Although composite video isn't the best of the three common home video signal types, it has the advantage of being nearly universal, supported by practically every a/v device on the market, and so often performs an important role in a/v hookups. Here, as elsewhere, quality matters; a top-quality a/v cable will make the most of the available signal. We offer these a/v cables in a wide variety of precut lengths and will cut to custom lengths also. |
The Coax: Belden 1694A for video, 1505F for audioOur standard composite a/v cable configuration is a run of Belden 1694A for the composite video line, and a pair of Belden 1505F cables for the two audio lines; we also offer other cables as well, see below. Belden 1694A is a 75 ohm video cable engineered for low attenuation, low capacitance and exceptional bandwidth. 1694A is triple shielded--with two layers of foil and one of tinned copper braid--for maximum protection from outside noise and interference. The specs on this cable compare favorably with any competing product on the market; you can spend more money, and you can get cables made with some strange exotic materials, but when it comes to video performance, there isn't a better product than Belden 1694A. For the audio lines, we recommend Belden 1505F; 1505F is a double-braid shielded cable, which offers superb EMI rejection to keep high-energy low-frequency noise from getting into your audio lines. The Connectors: Canare RCAPsAs a general rule, RCA plugs on the market today--even those on some very expensive cables--don't depart much from the original 1930's design. Sure, they're gold-plated--mostly on the outside, where it doesn't matter--but the basic deficiency of the design remains: the RCA plug doesn't really have a good way of gripping the jack for good mechanical and electrical contact. Canare RCA plugs, in a revolutionary departure from the traditional RCA plug design, solve this contact problem through a unique series of "internal pressure contact fingers," gold-plated spring contacts which give the plug body a 360 degree grip on the jack. These are sturdy, all-metal-bodied plugs, joined to the coax through a double-crimp process which ensures perfect and durable contact with both the braid and the center conductor, and designed for optimum impedance match with 75 ohm video coax. We've never seen a better RCA plug, and we don't expect to see one any time soon. View Canare's description and specs for the RCAP plugs. |

We hand-cut and terminate each of these cables ourselves, using Canare tooling, so we know they're done right and tested before they go out. These are top-performing, professional-quality cables, but at a cost lower than many lesser cables go for in the big chain stores. We think you'll be impressed with their performance; but we also offer a complete, unconditional return privilege. If for any reason--or for no reason--you're not completely, utterly satisfied, just return the cables within 30 days and we'll refund your purchase price in full.
Other Alternatives:
In addition to our standard Belden 1694A/1505F Canare RCAP configuration, we can supply the following options:
Different Coaxes:
We can supply audio/video cables in any of a number of different coaxial cable types, each matched with an appropriately-sized Canare RCAP plug. For a complete list, click here.
Techflex Braided Cable Jacket:All of our cable sets above will be delivered as three separate cables of identical length. However, if you prefer cables which are grouped together in a common jacket, we also offer Techflex, a black plastic braided covering similar to a "finger trap," on a/v cable sets up to twelve feet long. Techflex adds one dollar per foot to the cost of any cable assembly above.
To Order:Just fill in your cable length in feet in the form below, select Techflex if desired, and click "calculate" to display the price. To purchase, click "Add to Cart."
